ACCESS Project Cohort One Marks Success as Cohort Two Begins in the South West
The impact of a project is truly felt when the numbers and the communities tell the story.
Following the successful completion of the first phase of the #ACCESS Project in the North West Region of Cameroon, funded by the Stone Family Foundation through Street Child, which supported over 1,500 out of school girls aged 6 to 13, this success was presented at a strategic stakeholder workshop yesterday, 5th August 2026 in Buea.
Street Child, together with #TeenAlive brought together key stakeholders including the Street Child Country Director, representatives from the Governor’s office, #MINPROFF, #MINEDUB, #MINAS, #UNICEF, and government representatives from both the North West and South West Regions.
The workshop presented the successes of ACCESS Project Cohort One, carried out in three divisions of the North West Region, Bui, Donga Mantung and Mezam, and also marked the preparation for the second cohort of the project, set to kick start in selected hard to reach communities in the South West Region.
The workshop featured a panel discussion on the impact of ACCESS Cohort One and past Street Child education projects in Cameroon, followed by a presentation on education in emergency contexts in Cameroon, nine years into the ongoing conflict, and the realities on the ground today.
This was followed by a presentation on child safeguarding and child protection, covering child rights, complaints and response mechanisms, psychosocial first aid and critical response tools.
Closely followed by this workshop, was Day one of the training of teachers for the second cohort of the project in the South West Region, which focused on promoting girls dignity and rights, and how to build confidence, self worth, knowledge of rights and safe participation for girls.
Day one closed with a presentation on the domains of #TaRL, assessment and literacy, data recording in literacy, and grouping in literacy.
Every girl who returns to a classroom because of this project is proof that when partners come together with commitment and the right resources, change is possible. As Cohort One closes this chapter of impact, Cohort Two is already opening the next in the South West Region, thanks to The Stone Family Foundation and Street Child, and we invite our partners, and the public to stay with us on this journey of giving every child, especially the girl child, a fair chance at learning and a brighter future.
