TeenAlive saw the urgent need to be part of the graduation ceremony of Government School Miselele
Following the end of academic year 2021/2022, and taking into consideration that students are going for three months holidays, TeenAlive saw the urgent need to be part of the graduation ceremony of Government School Miselele (Tiko Sub–Division, Fako, Division, South West Region, Cameroon), that took place on Wednesday June 8, 2022. It was a huge opportunity to drill the pupils and parents on sex education and equip pupils with preventive mechanisms on sexual exploitation and abuse, which is rampant during long holidays.
The choice of this school was because teenage pregnancy in this Community, beginning from primary school is on a rise. We therefore saw the need to help pupils spend their holidays free from violence and return to school safely.
The parents on their part were drilled on GBV prevention, as well as available services to respond to survivors. As such, participants gained skills on safe reporting and referrals. After which the SW GBV Referral Pathways were shared to all parents present. This Sensitization involved both men and women, which is healthy in ending GBV.
Lastly, participants were sensitised on cholera prevention. Worthy of note is that this community has registered one dead case on cholera, and a few others severely affected by the cholera. TeenAlive distributed Aqua tabs to help disinfect drinkable water, donated by the GBV Sub-Cluster, headed by UNFPA to members of the community.
It was indeed a day well spent in this community.
