TeenAlive 2024 Annual Report

In the past years, TeenAlive has been instrumental in transforming the lives of teenage mothers in the communities of Liongo and Tole through impactful projects, such as the UNICEF ECHO initiative. This project not only empowered these young mothers but also catalyzed our expansion into the conflict-affected regions of Northwest and Southwest Cameroon. By focusing our efforts on communities such as Bamenda 1 & 2, Boyo, Missellele, Mile 14, and Muyuka, we have been able to address critical needs and provide essential support to those who need it most. Over the course of eleven months, we concentrated on child protection, case management, and the production of civil documents, ensuring that vulnerable children received the assistance and resources they need to thrive in their challenging environments.

Building on this foundation of support, TeenAlive initiated the Chalkboard Project, which included a comprehensive assessment of children in the Southwest region through Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) and Early Grade Mathematics Assessment (EGMA). This initiative was conducted in collaboration with Street Child of Cameroon, demonstrating our commitment to evidence-based interventions that enhance educational outcomes. In the months of August, September, and October, we sponsored a creative arts project in Missellele and Mile 14, partnering with Penboy to provide children with opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and personal growth. This project not only nurtured artistic talents but also fostered a sense of community and belonging among participants.

The UNICEF ECHO 2 project was launched in the Southwest region, marking another significant milestone in our mission. TeenAlive is now serving the divisions of Kupe Muanenguba, Lebialem, and Fako through this initiative. Titled “Building Resilience Amongst Crisis-Affected Children through Integrated Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Legal Identity, and Community Engagement,” this program commenced in August 2024 and aims to further support affected children in these areas. By integrating various forms of support, we strive to create a holistic approach that addresses the multifaceted challenges faced by children in crisis situations.

In addition to these initiatives, TeenAlive has embarked on the BHA-UNICEF project, focusing on “Emergency Child Protection” in the Southwest region, which began in November 2024. This initiative spans the Limbe 1, 2, and 3, Tiko, and Muyuka Sun divisions, emphasizing our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children in these vulnerable communities. By prioritizing emergency response and protection services, we aim to create a safer environment for children affected by conflict and instability.

Our commitment to education remains strong, as demonstrated by our EiE (Education in Emergencies) project in Boyo, which has reached over 686 children through Mobile Neighborhood Learning Corners. These learning corners provide a safe space for children to engage in educational activities, fostering a love for learning even in the midst of adversity. Furthermore, we conducted a back-to-school distribution in Nkambe Central, providing educational materials to over 162 children, ensuring that they have the necessary resources to succeed in their studies. Following a fire incident in Wonyamongo, we also distributed learning materials to 16 affected children, demonstrating our responsive approach to the needs of our communities.

In celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, TeenAlive collaborated with MINPROFF and UNICEF to honor adolescent girls from conflict-affected communities, showcasing their artistic talents gained from our creative arts project. This collaboration also included the UNICEF AGAB girls, who engaged in meaningful dialogues about issues affecting the girl child. By bringing together these young women, we aimed to empower them and amplify their voices on critical topics, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared purpose.

As we reflect on an incredible year filled with successful project implementations across the nation, we are inspired by the resilience and determination of the communities we serve. Each initiative has reinforced our commitment to uplifting and empowering vulnerable populations, and we look forward to expanding our reach to more children in other parts of Cameroon. With a steadfast focus on child protection, education, and community engagement, we remain dedicated to making a lasting impact in the lives of those we serve. Together, we will continue to build a brighter future for children in our country, ensuring that they have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.
