NEWSLETTER FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL
CHILD PROTECTION IN FOCUS

Dear TeenAlive Community,
Welcome to this month’s edition of the TeenAlive Monthly Insights. This month, we celebrate the resilience of children in the conflict-affected regions of Cameroon, particularly in the Northwest and Southwest Regions. Children in these hard-to-reach communities have demonstrated remarkable strength and hope.
Following the longstanding socio-political crisis in the Northwest and Southwest Regions, where heavy attacks on education have forced children in grassroots communities out of conventional classrooms for over eight years, with some even being born amidst the crisis, brilliant initiatives such as Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS) have been established by our partners UNICEF and ECHO. These initiatives aim to educate children outside of traditional schooling, using an integrated approach to foster child protection and education in crisis-hit communities.

Through carefully structured Life Skills lessons, these children are receiving transformative education that supports their early childhood development while promoting interaction with peers and the community at large. This success is largely attributable to the continued support from UNICEF and ECHO.
The Life Skills curriculum encompasses three main categories: Self-Awareness, Interpersonal Skills, and Thinking Skills. It addresses critical areas such as Goal Setting, Decision Making, Problem Solving, Confident Communication, Self-Esteem, and Managing Disputes, all vital leadership skills for nurturing a vibrant generation of future leaders.
In communities like Alou, Bangem, Tombel, and Wabane, parents expressed their gratitude to TeenAlive, UNICEF, and ECHO for these Life skills lessons, which have positively influenced children’s behaviors, particularly those who were previously considered delinquent. Moreover, these lessons encourage peer-to-peer tutoring, thereby educating a wider audience in communities.
The project is not only shaping children but also fostering resilient and hopeful communities. As our mission entails, we continuously strive to create a society where every child is free from harm, abuse, neglect, and deprivation. Moving forward, we envision reaching more children across the nation, especially in grassroots communities. Thanks to UNICEF and ECHO, we are gradually realizing this mission.
The resilience and determination displayed by the children in the conflict-affected regions of Cameroon inspire us all. The effort of the TeenAlive team, supported by UNICEF and ECHO, are transforming not only individual lives but entire communities, making way for a better community for children to live in. As we continue our work with dedication, we remain committed to empowering these young minds and creating an environment where every child is free from oppression. With your support, we can build a society of hope and resilience ensuring that every child has the chance to reach their full potential and emerge as the leaders of tomorrow.
