Cameroon: The commemoration of the World humanitarian day
The celebration of the world humanitarian day under the theme #ActForHumanity# took place at PCSS Buea Cameroon on the 17th of August 2024.
The World Humanitarian Day which is celebrated on the 19th of August, was honoured on the 17th of August by humanitarians of Northwest and southern regions of Cameroon. The theme of this year is a reminder of the protection and treatment of civilians including humanitarian workers during war. This year’s theme calls to an end to the act of violence, urging greater respect for the rules of war and accountability for those in power.
Humanitarians from the Northwest and southwest splendidly celebrated the day with varieties of sporting activities which started with a welcome speech from UNICEF.
A warm up sport activity was coordinated to get the humanitarians involved. The next activity was “tug of war” which was played between National NGOs vs International NGOs and UN bodies and ended in a Draw (1-1).
The next activity was “bag race that ended with the victory of the female and male National NGOs. The egg race was won by female National NGOs while the male International NGOs won over the females.
The football match played between the National vs International NGOs ended the sporting activity with a smile on both the teams, who went home with a satisfying draw of (2-2).
The ceremony continued with the performance from the flutist and ended with a closing remark from the field coordinator from International Rescue Committee (IRC )
