Empowering Adolescent Girls in Missellele: TeenAlive in Partnership with UNICEF

TeenAlive on the 30th of August carried out a distribution in the Missellele community, aimed at empowering adolescent girls through the provision of dignity kits, sewing machines (including accessories), stationery supplies and more. This activity is in line with our commitment to enhancing the lives of young girls, as well as ensuring that adolescent girls have access to WASH items.

The dignity kits included essential hygiene products/basic needs such as buckets, reusable sanitary pads, soap, towels, tooth paste, tooth brushes, underwears, flash light, loins, T shirts and more, enabling girls to manage their menstrual health with confidence and dignity.

A sewing machine was equally handed to the community based child protection Mechanisms members, to foster the production of reusable sanitary pads for adolescent girls in the community. This will help reduce expenses on sanitary pads which many of them cannot afford.

The community based child protection Mechanism was provided with books, pens, A4 sheets and recreational kits to be handed to the children when they need them to play. This initiative emphasizes the importance of community involvement in protecting children’s rights. By empowering adolescent girls, we are fostering support networks that enhance their safety and well-being.

The Adolescent girls expressed gratitude for the resources. Victory, one of the beneficiaries, shared, “The dignity kit makes me feel confident, it came with many items including pants, I also learned about the emergency whistle which is found in the bucket to blow in case of any rape, I am very grateful to TeenAlive and UNICEF.” Such sentiments highlight the program’s positive impact on the children.

As TeenAlive looks ahead, we plan to offer workshops on sewing, hygiene education, and entrepreneurship to further equip these young girls.
